Invisalign Compared to Other Orthodontic Treatments

Invisalign Compared to Other Orthodontic Treatments

Invisalign has been an available orthodontic treatment for nearly 20 years now, and many patients continue to choose it over its older counterparts. How does Invisalign compare with the alternatives though? Here is a look at the differences between this treatment and other alternative choices available from Dr. Allen Sanders.

Invisalign Versus Metal Braces

Metal braces are clearly no match for Invisalign in terms of aesthetics, but the differences do not stop there. Invisalign is also more comfortable thanks to its lack of wires and brackets. Because the aligners are removable, recipients can brush and floss more easily also with Invisalign. Patients frequently have faster results with Invisalign than with metal braces, as well. While Invisalign and metal braces have similar corrective abilities, metal braces do remain more versatile. Of course, metal braces are usually the more affordable of the two.

Invisalign Versus Other Discreet Braces

Patients can also choose from lingual and ceramic braces when discretion is a priority. These other options do use brackets and wires similar to traditional metal braces, but they are different in certain ways. Ceramic braces have tooth-colored or translucent brackets that are not as obvious as metal braces, but they are still more visible than Invisalign. With ceramic self-ligating brackets, treatment is also faster and more comfortable than with traditional braces. Lingual braces are placed behind the teeth, making the top brackets invisible and the bottom ones nearly so. Similar to Invisalign, lingual braces avoid abrasion against the inner cheeks.

Candidacy is generally more broad for orthodontics other than Invisalign, but eligibility can really only be determined on an individual basis. Patients can schedule a consultation with our Invisalign dentist in Rocklin to learn more about how these treatments compare to each other and find out which is right for them.
