Caring for Teeth After Orthodontic Treatments
Oral hygiene comes even easier to many patients after orthodontics, which gives patients more confidence in their smile. Many aspects of oral care stay the same after the teeth are straightened. However, a few details may be different. Here is how to keep your teeth in good shape after you wear braces.
Wear Your Retainers as Instructed
Even though your teeth are done being straightened after orthodontic care, your results are not yet as permanent as they can be. For this reason, you will need to wear retainers for a variable amount of time. Some, but not all, patients will need to wear retainers every night for life.
Brush and Floss as Usual
Straight teeth are less likely to cause dental problems than crooked teeth, but they still require ongoing care. Brush and floss your teeth gently with a soft-bristled toothbrush and the floss of your choice.
Get Check-Ups Regularly
Patients generally need two check-ups per year, but this can vary with individual risk factors and dental history. In some cases, patients may need check-ups less often after braces than before because their teeth no longer collect food particles and plaque as much. These visits also can give our dentist a chance to check on your orthodontic results.
Braces can leave your smile healthier and better looking for life. With a good oral care regimen, you can do your part to ensure that your smile stays as fabulous as it was immediately after orthodontic treatment. You can learn more about orthodontic treatments at our office by scheduling a consultation with our dentist, Dr. Allen Sanders.
